Personal data stays on your phone by default
Your transaction history, bank SMS messages, uploaded statements, spending categories, and personal budgets are stored on your device by default. Supported bank messages and uploaded statements are parsed on your device. The limited repair-sample exception for unrecognised or failed SMS formats is described below.
SMS format repair samples
When Batwa cannot recognise a supported financial SMS format, or a known parsing rule fails, the app may automatically send a digit-scrambled repair sample to Batwa so we can build or repair the parsing rule. Before upload, digits in the message are substituted on the device. The surrounding words and punctuation are preserved because they are needed to recognise the message format.
A repair request can also include the SMS sender, the financial institution identifier, a structure signature, request status and limited parsing context needed to diagnose the format. Batwa uses these repair samples only to maintain financial-message parsing support. They are not used for advertising and are not sold to third parties.
Messages that match a supported format are processed on your phone and do not need this repair-sample upload. You can contact Batwa to ask questions or request deletion of data associated with your account.
Shared features use minimal cloud
Bill Splitting and Shared Budgets sync the information needed by participants, such as group balances, split amounts, and shared budget totals. Batwa does not sell data to third parties and does not run ads.
