Bring your bank emails into Batwa

About 2 minutes, on your phone. Batwa does most of it. Google shows two warnings that an app is unverified: one for Batwa, and one for your own copy of the email bridge. Both are expected, and this page shows exactly what to tap.

Why does Google warn you?

Batwa reads bank emails through an email bridge: a small script that Batwa installs in your own Google account. It runs there, as you. It reads only the bank emails you choose and hands them straight to Batwa on your phone.

Batwa’s servers never see your inbox, and Batwa never sees your Google password: you sign in on Google’s own screens.

Google shows “Google hasn’t verified this app” for any app that has not finished Google’s review, and for any script you own that Google has not reviewed. You will see it twice: first for Batwa, then for your own copy of the bridge, called “Batwa Email Sync”. Each time, tap Advanced, then the “Go to … (unsafe)” link under it.

Step 1: Connect your Google account

In Batwa: Open Data sources › Email, turn on Use email (beta) and tap Set up email. A sheet explains the steps: tap Start.

  1. 1a Choose the Gmail account your bank emails go to. Easiest if it is the account Chrome uses, usually the first one in the list.
  2. 1b Google shows “Google hasn’t verified this app”. This is expected. Tap Advanced. Don’t tap “BACK TO SAFETY”: that stops the setup.
  3. 1c Tap Go to Batwa (unsafe). “Unsafe” here only means Google has not finished reviewing the app.
  4. 1d Google lists two Apps Script permissions for Batwa: to create and update your Apps Script projects and deployments. The boxes start empty. Tick Select all, then tap Continue. If you skip this, Batwa asks again when it installs the bridge.

Step 2: Install your email bridge

In Batwa: Nothing to tap. Batwa installs the bridge by itself right after you connect.

  1. 2a Batwa shows “Installing your email bridge… about 20 seconds”. Wait. If Google asks again, repeat 1b to 1d.
  2. 2b Batwa says “Apps Script API is off”? Tap Open Google API settings, tap Google Apps Script API and turn the switch on. Come back to Batwa: it installs the bridge by itself.

Step 3: Approve once in Chrome

In Batwa: Tap Approve in Chrome. A sheet lists what Google will show: tap Open Chrome.

  1. 3a See “Sorry, unable to open the file at present”? Chrome opened your bridge with a different Google account. Go back to Batwa and tap Open in a private tab. How it works
  2. 3b “Batwa Email Sync needs your permission”: tap Review permissions. If Google asks, choose the account you connected.
  3. 3c “Google hasn’t verified this app” again. This time it is about your own copy, “Batwa Email Sync”. Tap Advanced. The developer it names is you.
  4. 3d Tap Go to Batwa Email Sync (unsafe) at the bottom.
  5. 3e “Sign in to Batwa Email Sync” shows your account. Tap Continue.
  6. 3f The boxes start empty. Tick Select all, scroll down and tap Continue.
  7. 3g “All set”: your bridge is approved. Tap Back to Batwa. Batwa checks your bridge and opens the bank list.

Step 4: Choose your banks

In Batwa: Back in Batwa, the bank list opens by itself. Still in Chrome? Switch to Batwa.

  1. 4a Tick your banks, and JazzCash or Easypaisa if you use them. Search, or use the chips to narrow the list.
  2. 4b Tap Save and check email.
  3. 4c Wait a moment. The button shows “Sending the bank list…”, “Saving your choice…”, “Turning on automatic checks…” and “Checking your email…”: Batwa sends your choice to your bridge, turns on automatic checks and checks your email once.

Step 5: Ready

In Batwa: Batwa says “Email is set up”.

  1. 5a Your bank transactions appear in Batwa. Your bridge keeps looking for new bank emails, and Batwa picks them up when you open it. The email card now has Change banks, Reinstall email bridge and Disconnect.

That’s it. New bank emails now reach Batwa on their own.

Chrome uses a different Google account

Google opens your bridge only for the account Chrome uses. If your bridge is in another account, Chrome shows “Sorry, unable to open the file at present” (3a).

Go back to Batwa. It says “Not approved yet”. Tap Open in a private tab. A private tab has no other Google accounts in it: sign in with only the account you connected, then do 3b to 3g there.

Android does not allow screenshots of a private tab, so there are no pictures of it here. It starts with Google’s sign-in page (your email, then your password, on Google’s own screens). After that you see the same screens as 3b to 3g.

No private tab? In Batwa tap Copy bridge link. In Chrome open ⋮ › New Incognito tab, paste the link and sign in with only the account you connected.

“Back to Batwa” stayed in the browser

Sometimes Back to Batwa opens a Batwa web page instead of the app. Your approval is already saved. Switch to Batwa yourself: open your recent apps and tap Batwa.

Batwa checks your bridge by itself. If it still says “Waiting for your approval”, tap I've approved it.

Change banks

On the email card tap Change banks. Tick or untick banks, then tap Save and check email.

Disconnect

On the email card tap Disconnect. Batwa tells your bridge to stop and forgets it on this phone. The card goes back to Install email bridge.

Offline, or the bridge does not answer? Batwa shows “Batwa can’t reach your bridge”. Tap Check again when you are online. Or tap Stop it in Google and delete the timer on the page that opens. If you stopped it yourself, tap Remove from this phone only.

Disconnect stops the bridge but does not delete it. To delete everything, see Remove everything.

Update your email bridge

Set up email in an earlier Batwa? The card says “Update your email bridge”: Batwa now talks to your bridge directly. Tap Update email bridge. If Batwa then asks you to approve in Chrome or to choose banks, follow steps 3 and 4.

If something goes wrong

  • You tapped “BACK TO SAFETY”: Nothing broke. In Batwa, tap Set up email again (or Open approval page again in step 3). This time tap Advanced, then “Go to … (unsafe)”.
  • “Apps Script API is off” in Batwa: Tap Open Google API settings, turn Google Apps Script API on and come back. Batwa installs the bridge by itself (2b).
  • “Sorry, unable to open the file at present” in Chrome: Chrome used a different Google account. Go back to Batwa and tap Open in a private tab. See Chrome uses a different Google account.
  • “Not approved yet” in Batwa: Google has not saved your approval. Tap Open approval page again and go all the way to “All set”: tick Select all and tap Continue at the end.
  • Back to Batwa opened a web page, not the app: Your approval is saved. Switch to Batwa from your recent apps. See “Back to Batwa” stayed in the browser.
  • Nothing imported yet, or “Latest check: nothing new”: Batwa reads emails only from the banks you ticked. Tap Change banks, check your banks are ticked and tap Save and check email. Batwa says some emails were skipped? They came from banks you have not ticked: add them under Change banks.
  • “Batwa can’t reach your bridge” after Disconnect: Tap Check again when you are online, or Stop it in Google. See Disconnect.

Remove everything

  1. Stop the bridge: Data sources › Email › Disconnect.
  2. Delete your bridge: open script.google.com, find “Batwa Email Sync”, then ⋮ › Remove.
  3. Remove Google access: open myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove both “Batwa” and “Batwa Email Sync”.

The bridge keeps its working files in a folder in your Google Drive. That folder stays until you delete it yourself.

Stuck? Email support@batwa.app with the step number (for example 3c) and what you see.
